[해부학] 존 아사로 각면화 헤드 John Asaro - Planes of the Head

by webohi 2022. 4. 28.

- What are planes of the face?
: LIGHTING THE PLANES FROM ABOVE When light comes from above, the more prominent planes of the face—such as the bridge of the nose and the cheekbones—are highlighted. The eyes, which recede slightly, are shadowed by the brow; the sides of the nose, bottom of the chin, and underside of the neck are also in shadow.

- What do the planes of the head indicate?
: The Original Planes of the Head mannequin is designed as a tool for learning in an effective and orderly progression how to draw and paint the human head. The model is applicable to both sexes and all races, with variations arising only in proportion.

- What is the Asaro head?
: What Is The Asaro Head? The Asaro Head is a simplification of the human head. It's a 3D model with the goal to show you the simplified planes of the head. It looks like this: If you examine the head, you can see that it's basically a regular human head, but has flat shapes and almost no curves.

- Why are Asaro heads useful?
: This is a 3D model of the head created by John Asaro and helps our overall understanding of how light is reflected on the surfaces of the head. When we study portraiture, we are learning the exaggerated planes and angles of an object that we often think of as round or spherical.

The original Planes of the Head, as well as subsequent heads and Planes of the Body, was designed and developed by John Asaro. John was raised in Southern California where he attended Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He also attended the Art Students League in New York City. He left a twelve-year career in commercial art to become a fine artist. He later taught figurative painting at Art Center College of Design where he developed the concept of Planes of the Head. He no longer teaches, choosing instead to concentrate on painting full time. He holds an honorary doctorate from the Academy of Art College in San Francisco. The Planes of the Head mannequin head has been available since 1976. This knowledge of the head is only a start. One must find his or her own path.

The Original Planes of the Head mannequin is designed as a tool for learning in an effective and orderly progression how to draw and paint the human head. The model is applicable to both sexes and all races, with variations arising only in proportion. The left side shows the basic structure of the head's planes as seen in a rounded and or younger face.

The right side shows a more complex structure characteristic of a thinner and or older face. This mannequin head has been conceived in the hope of benefiting all artists from the beginning student to the professional. It is designed for both independent and classroom use.

Through academic exercise Planes of the Head offers a realistic approach for the understanding of light and planes in the modeling of the human head.

Definition : The head body is made of French curves and ovals. On all these surfaces there are flatter and concave areas we call planes (they are not flat). The Planes of the Head mannequin is a 3D map to show where all these planes are on the head and the relationship they have to one another. This mannequin head has every plane imaginable. We do not suggest every head has all these planes they do not. However, we do say all heads have some of these planes, and that people have the basic planes shown on page 24 of the booklet that is provided with the Planes of the Head mannequin, and the new mannequin head called "memorized."

All heads come in unbreakable light gray plastic. They are all made with light gray polyethylene plastic and are unbreakable. All pieces are made in the USA through a process called “rotational molding.” Each head and body is made individually and then hand-trimmed; it takes an hour to an hour and half to complete one piece! Because of the hand trimming no head or body is ever “perfect” due to the trimmed seams, but it must meet our standard of quality before shipping out to our customers.
